In early morning, I entered this city. The first thinking is " wow!! is this a capital? even Rabat (capital of Moroco) in Afria is better and more morden!"
The most tourists (mmm... in seriously, most backpackers) would stay in old downtown, the traveler books or sightseeing all focus on this part. The best way to visit this city is taking a taxi for short term visitng, but even though, I still did not know where I was till now when I went to new town once.
The hotel I stayed is located on the main street and Roma theater, Mosque, and citadel nearby. The main local bus station Abdali staion was not far but now here is replaced by a new park, all buses move to new station. It's very interesting to live here maybe it's easier to live as local when you live among them.
There are 7 hills around this city, so those bulidings were built along hill, always walk uphill or downhill, not saying those small and complex lanes. They would make some steps to have short cut, well, It was so tired after walking for one day.
This city is not big, even Jordan, so people travel here just stay shortly. People here, I don't know, I would not say they are active, maybe it was in hot summer, life is easy, slowly,.... boring...
Compare with Damascus, I like Damas more.
